About Patryk Hadas
Artist Biography
Patryk Hadas (b. 1987) is a Polish-German artist based in Berlin and a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. His work explores intimacy, memory, and emotional tension through the lens of a long-term relationship. In his ongoing project "At 21 We Were Immortal," he explores the “us against the world” perspective, revisiting the feeling of youth as limitless and invincible.
At 21 We Were Immortal & Artistic Process
His ongoing, multi-chapter project, At 21 We Were Immortal, forms the core of his current practice. The series is an emotional reconstruction of the past, consistently grounded in his own memories and original photographic materials, which serve as his primary source of inspiration. Chapter 01 juxtaposes realistic imagery with spontaneous scribbles, drawing heavy visual inspiration from 1990s and early 2000s pop culture, MTV aesthetics, and the magazine covers of his youth. In Chapter 02, the concept evolves: moving away from photorealism, Hadas utilizes lines not as an overlay, but as the primary structural building block to construct the image, form, and perspective itself.
Technique & Professional Background
Hadas operates primarily on large-scale canvases, employing a dynamic mixed-media approach that bridges traditional painting with contemporary, expressive tools. His technique is characterized by the rich, physical layering of oil and acrylic paints, which he deliberately disrupts using spray paint, airbrush, and heavy oil sticks. By combining the precise, structural planning of his compositions with these spontaneous, raw materials, he creates complex visual textures that balance photorealistic elements with vibrant, energetic abstraction.
Education, Exhibitions & Recognition
Hadas holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Painting, graduating with Distinction in 2014 from the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, Poland. He further refined his practice during an ERASMUS Scholarship at the University of the Arts (UdK) in Berlin in the studio of Prof. Pia Fries (2013–2014).
